Shola is the local name for a fig tree. In the ancient time, merchant used to sell their product under this tree, to get shade from the sun. That is how Shola market got its name. If you enjoy a traditional open market, taking a walk from Megenagna to Shola worth the experience. The marketing culture among the locals is unique. Farmers from the nearby towns, wearing their traditional cloth, come to sell their products to the local. The unique scene is favorable for candid photography. Not so far from the shola market, you will see Yeka mountain. If you go up the mountain, you will have the most breath-taking panoramic view of the city and the surrounding areas. Churchill avenue walking tour

Churchill Avenue is a road that connects Piazza (the downtown of Addis) to lege har train station, which is the oldest in the horn of Africa. In front of the train station, the Lion of Judah Statue – one of the key symbols of the Ethiopian imperial dynasty, which was built a year later to mark the coronation of Haile Selassie. Along the route, surrounded by old financial district buildings, you will find another statue of the black Lion of Judah monument near the old National Theater and the first commercial bank. In this street, you can see the military headquarter, broadcasting service, hospital, post office, and the collection of souvenir shops. On this tour, you will see different monuments, that describe the government history timeline from the monarchy to the armed force party. If you have sweet tooth or are a fervent coffee enthusiast, Tomocca coffee and Enrico pastry, the two historical coffee shops are in the vicinity of the final destination. The historic avenue

Meskel Square was constructed by Emperor Haile Selassie for public gatherings or, demonstrations, notable and for the Meskel festival. Meskel Square gets its name from the Meskel festival that has been celebrated for over 1600 years. In this avenue, there are two Emperor palaces, parliament, government buildings, and several historical churches lie in this part of town, as do the National Museum and main campus of Addis Ababa University. Trinity Cathedral the final resting place of Emperor Haile Selassie and his wife Empress Menen Asfaw is one of the fascinated pieces of architecture of the building that should not be missed, and also the victory and martyrs square which is named by local arat kilo and sidist kilo, which means (four and six kilo) meters from the palace, very much worth to visit as this is a very important part of Ethiopian history. Highly recommended! This trip can take a full day but can be arranged for a short trip.
